HighlandsRanch.us provides complimentary information about the State of Colorado. Highlands Ranch is located in close-by location of several Colorado State Parks. So, if you are looking for a quick getaway - please check out the following information.

Roxborough State Park

More than 1.2 billion years of geologic time are represented by the spectacular red-rock formations found within Roxborough State Park, which is located southwest of Denver. Ecologically, the park is highly diverse as a result of its location in a transition zone between the plains and the mountains. The area's geological structure has resulted in microclimates that have produced seven distinct plant communities in a unique mixture of prairie and mountain species. As a result, Roxborough is home to abundant wildlife, including black bear, mountain lion and elk.

The park is known for its spectacular sightseeing, tranquil surroundings, fascinating trails and Visitor Center. This park offers hiking, cross-country skiing and excellent educational programs on Colorado history, geology and wildlife watching. Roxborough is a day-use park only and does not offer camping. Pets are not allowed at Roxborough.

From Santa Fe: Head south on Santa Fe (Highway 85) to Titan Road. (4.2 miles south of C-470 intersection) Turn right (west) on Titan Road. Continue heading west on Titan Road. It will curve and begin to head south—becoming North Rampart Range Road (3 miles). Continue south on North Rampart Range Road past Roxborough Village and the Foothills Water Treatment Plant (3.5 miles). At the intersection of North Rampart Range Road and Roxborough Park Road, turn left onto Roxborough Park Road. Take the next right (about 50 yards away) to enter the park.

Yet, Chatfield is one of the most complete parks in Colorado. The park includes camping, a full-service livery, miles of hiking and biking trails, a popular lake, the Chatfield marina and one of the most popular hot-air balloon launch areas on the Front Range. With nearly 1.5 million visitors annually, Chatfield has a lot of admirers. The park is popular for its relaxed environment and beautiful views of the nearby foothills. Great blue herons nest at Chatfield from March through September in the heronry on the south side of the park. Come out to this delightful retreat for great camping, boating and fishing.
