Life in Highlands Ranch has many advantages. If you read our list
of disadvantages you might be turned off about living on the ranch.
But of course as always in life - good and bad are close together.

For the (still) low monthly HOA
fees your whole family can use the different recreation centers
and swimming pools. Try to put that into a gym membership and compare.
The home owners association also takes care of enforcing the HOA
rules and therefore assuring that the value of your property is
not being dragged down by some moron who is trying to make a repair
place out of his garage or a dump out of his property.
Yes, they
(the architectural committee) some times go overboard with enforcing
those rules but they are doing a fairly good job overall. The
HOA also organizes quite a few cultural events with huge success.

Highlands Ranch offers great shopping
and dining experiences. Everything you need for daily life is
close. In many cases you can actually walk to the restaurant
or the store from your home without turning this into a marathon.
If you do not like one super market you can easily shop at the
competition. Albertson's, King Soopers (Kroger / City Market),
Safeway and Wholefoods are somewhere in your neighborhood.
Restaurants - there are some awesome places in and around Highlands
Ranch. From junk food to great exotic cuisine - you'll find
something for dinner. As an example - We recommend Little Holly's
Chinese Restaurant for
dinner and take-out. It's one of our favorite spots. The food
is great, the service is fast and good and the location is easy
to access. Hacienda Colorado (Lone Tree / next to I-25) is another
great place to eat out when living in Highlands Ranch.
Highlands Ranch is not a poor
neighborhood and many crimes found in other parts of town (Denver
Metro Area) seem to be less in Highlands Ranch. At least personally
I feel very safe in Highlands Ranch and the weekly crime report
in the Highlands Ranch Herald sounds more like the report of
a small country town. Sure, if you have 75,000+ people living
together you will see murder, rape and other ugly stuff but it
seems like in smaller numbers.
Finding good doctors and medical
practices has not been a problem in Highlands Ranch. With so
many people living in one area there is usually a need for every
medical profession being represented.
2 great hospitals are also close. Littleton Hospital and SkyRidge
are just a few minutes away from most places in Highlands Ranch.
